MitoAction
MitoAction is working to improve the quality of life for everybody affected by Mitochondrial Disease. Founded in Boston, USA, the non-profit organisation is run by people who live with Mito and healthcare specialists at the Boston Hospital. Since 2005 a small support group has evolved and grown, supporting thousands of people in the Mito community.
What does MitoAction do?
To achieve their mission, MitoAction:
- Raise awareness of Mitochondrial Disease around the world
- Provide suitable support for people living with Mito to manage their symptoms
- Link Mito specialists and support groups around the world together
- Work alongside the pharmaceutical industry to find treatments and cures
- Share information and resources for patients and their carers

What has MitoAction done?
To support the Mito community MitoAction has:
- Launched their own app. The MitoAction app helps people manage their Mito symptoms, find out about trials taking place related to their condition and bring the community together (digitally).
- Mito411 is MitoAction’s volunteer-run support line call, giving people living with the rare condition to talk to people who truly understand what they are living with. In 2022 there was almost 2000 calls logged.
- MitoAction’s Monthly Expert Series has been updating the Mito community on the latest advances in trials and insights on the rare and complex condition. These webinars take place on the last Friday of the month but there are over 100 on the website to watch.
